One of the main goals of spinal yoga is to improve posture. The exercises are simple and can be performed by almost everyone, but they are not necessarily easy. The movement material of spinal yoga mostly strengthens our supporting muscles, for example the deep back muscles responsible for moving the spine or the scapular adductors weakened by sitting.
A spine yoga class always trains the whole body, since in order to improve posture and free and healthy movement of the spine, it is essential that all the other joints of the body are strong and flexible. That’s why we also do hip and shoulder joint mobilizing exercises in each of these classes, moving and strengthening the joints in all directions. In addition to developing the range of motion of the joints, an important goal is to be able to apply what we learned in the yoga class during our everyday movements, in addition to the yoga mat.
The basis of correct posture and all movements is breathing, which we often do not pay enough attention to. Spine yoga stretches and releases the muscles around the rib cage, which is a prerequisite for free breathing. During movement exercises, we receive precise instructions about where to breathe (or the exercise itself restricts breathing in certain directions). In this way, we can gradually get to know and become aware of our own breathing pattern and develop it with simple breathing exercises.Spinal yoga uses anatomically thought-out, effective exercise sequences, with regular practice you will soon experience that your body changes, your movement develops, and you become stronger and more flexible. What seemed difficult before will become easy over time. What you thought would never happen is getting closer every day. Spine yoga is really everyone’s yoga, even if you are not sporty or didn’t like sports before, it will make you fall in love with exercise. And if you’ve been doing yoga for a while, it takes you back to the basics—which is always helpful.
In addition to its many beneficial effects, the best part is how you feel after a spine yoga class. You have thoroughly moved your whole body, yet you will not feel tired. You ended the practice with relaxation, but you still don’t stay sleepy. You will be more relaxed than when you arrived for class. That is why it is definitely worth returning to the yoga mat.
